Hi, I’m Val
Here is some basic information about me. If you are looking for a more in-depth description of my credentials and experience, you can find that further down on the page.
I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) — you might also know that title as therapist or counselor. Here is some basic information about me. If you are looking for a more in-depth description of my credentials and experience, you can find that further down on the page.
My approach: I draw from a blend of evidence-based treatments including EMDR, CBT, DBT, and Motivational Interviewing, tailoring what I use to what actually fits you.
My style: People who have worked with me tend to describe me as supportive, down-to-earth, straightforward, and non-judgmental. I can also be direct and use humor in my work, because sometimes that's exactly what the moment calls for. My goal is for you to feel genuinely heard and comfortable from the start.
My practice: I started my private practice in 2019 alongside a full-time job, and in late 2022 made the leap to running it full time — allowing me to be more flexible for my clients and focus my energy on the areas I'm most passionate about. I am also the co-founder of Aligned Clinical LCSW Consulting, LLC, a Behavioral Health and Wellness Consulting agency.
Outside of the office: I'm a parent first — which means a good chunk of my time is spent at kids' activities, and I wouldn't have it any other way. When I do get a moment to myself, I'm either at the gym, out for a walk, or getting through my reading list — mostly mysteries and lighthearted reads, nothing work-related. And if the stars align and I get a full kid-free hour? Bravo — as in the reality TV channel. No apologies.
If you have made it this far on my website, you probably already know that I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. But have you ever wondered what exactly that entails? Being an LCSW-R in New York state signifies that I hold a Master's Degree in Social Work, specializing in diagnosing and treating individuals. Furthermore, it indicates that I have successfully completed two clinical licensing exams and acquired at least six years of hands-on experience under supervision working with clients.
Since earning my Master's Degree in 2010, I have gained valuable experience in various settings such as Outpatient Community Mental Health Centers, the New York State Office of Mental Health in an inpatient forensic environment, Employee Assistance Programs, and the Behavioral Health Department within a hospital system. Across these roles, I have pursued advanced training in evidence-based modalities — including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) — equipping me to provide specialized, effective care for a wide range of presenting concerns.
My responsibilities have spanned program development and implementation, individual and group psychotherapy services, crisis assessments, trauma work and debriefing, and clinical supervision — a role in which my clinical leadership training has allowed me to guide and develop the next generation of social work practitioners.
